Abstract
Two important European COST Actions on lead-free solders ran from 2002 to 2007 and 2007 to 2011, respectively, led by Prof Herbert Ipser of the Universität Wien, Austria (COST 531), and Dr. Aleš Kroupa of the Czech Academy of Sciences in Brno, Czech Republic (COST MP0602). Scientists from 22 different countries were involved in the Actions, comprising 45 different institutions and no less than 62 different research teams. Dragana led the team from Serbia and made an important contribution to the work carried out during these Actions. The main focus of COST Actions is collaboration, it providing a platform to allow scientists to work with and to visit research teams in other countries. Through these two Actions, a network of scientists was created which we fondly refer to as the ‘COST Family’, forging close relationships that go on today, long after the COST Actions had ended. Dragana was very much a part of this family. When Dragana fell ill, the family wanted to express its collective fondness and concern and sent its ‘Best Wishes’ in the form of photos and signatures in order to let her know that she was in their thoughts at that difficult time. Now, in this issue of JMMB dedicated to her memory, much of it is reproduced as a tribute to that friendship born through scientific cooperation.
